Hoefer's 1929 Study
Hoefer published a study in 1929
that reviewed the developmental status of
children in Joliet, Illinois age 6 to 13 years
and correlated this with how they were fed as an infant (
Hoefer, 1929
).
The developmental test used in this study was an early form of the
Stanford-Binet test.
Results:
Infants who were breast fed for four to
nine months and then started on other foods had higher
test scores then those that were not breast fed or were breast fed
for shorter or longer time periods.
