Family members including the baby's father and grandparents can have a significant influence on a mother's decision to breastfeed and the duration of breastfeeding. A recent study from Texas, showed that fathers who approved of breastfeeding images in the media and thought that employers should provide accommodations for breastfeeding mothers were more likely to choose breastfeeding over formula feeding. Consequently, education of fathers-to-be during pregnancy (birth education classes) or during their teen-age years about breastfeeding may improve family support for breastfeeding mothers ( Memorize Vaaler, 2011 ).
